Oddments of dk yarn main and hair tone colour

With main colour

Cast on 28 stitches

Row 1: k1, p1 to end

Row 2: p1, k1to end

Repeat the 2 rows 3 more times 

Change to other colour

Cast off, sew seam

Flower

Cast on 16 stitches

Knit 2 tog. Across row

Cut yarn leaving short length

Thread through remaining stitches, pull tight, secure to head band

Bow

Cast on 8 stitches

Knit 6 rows

Cast off

Wrap small amount of yarn around centre to make a bow

Oddments main and contrast dk yarn

4 mm needles

Cast on 28 stitches with contrast yarn

Knit 2 rows in garter stitch (every row knit) 

Next row: knit 1, yfd knit 2 tog. To last stitch, knit 1

Next row: knit

Next row: purl

Change to main colour

Knit 14 rows in garter stitch 

Next row: knit 1, yfd knit 2 tog til last stitch, knit 1

Change to contrast yarn or continue with same colour

Knit 4 rows

Cast off

Turn up picot edge and slip stitch in place

Sew seam

Thread ribbon or cord through holes, or make a cord with 2 strands yarn knotted at each end, tie in bow

Knit 2 rows in garter stitch (every row knit) 

Change to main colour

Row 1: P1, k1 to end of row

Row 2: purl

Repeat these 2 rows 6 times

Knit 3 rows

Cast off

Sew  seam

Thread 2 strands of contrast  yarn and sew running stitches around hat below the top knit rows, tie knot in each end and tie in bow

Next row : purl

Knit 6 rows in stocking stitch ( 1 row knit, 1 row purl)

 Next rows knit 2 tog across row

Next row: purl 2 tog across row

Cut yarn leaving enough to thread through remaining stitches and join seam 

Flower

Cast on 16 stitches

Knit 2 tog. Across row

Cut yarn leaving short length

Thread through remaining stitches, pull tight, secure to head band

Bow

Cast on 8 stitches

Knit 6 rows

Cast off

Wrap small amount of yarn around centre to make a bow

Tassel

With hair tone yarn wind several times around your finger cut yarn leaving a length to wind around the yarn and to secure to top of hat.  Cut bottom and trim

 Change to dk yarn

Starting with a purl row, continue  in stocking stitch until work   

Is 10 cm

Next row: k6, k 2tog, k6, k2tog, k6

Next row: purl

Work 6 rows in k1, p 1 rib

Cast off

2 small pieces of ribbon 

Small amount of braid

Worked in garter stitch

Cast on 14 stitches

Knit every row for 10 cms 

Cast off

Fold in half and join side seams

Knot one end of ribbon use a sewing needle to attach handles 2 rows down from top knot other end

Attach braid or motive
